One of my many duties on the show as a Character Designer is working out main character poses from the boards. Our Storyboard guys are ALL amazing (Butch Hartman, Fred Gonzales, Dave Thomas and Rudi Bloss). These guys have a LOT on their plate so it's my job to come in afterwards and clear up any poses that need it as well as throw in a few more straights and curves to help push the visual style. it's the most challenging aspect of my job and probably the most fun part as well. At some studios it might even be considered character layout, to me it's just pure fun.

Just got back from a short trip to Michigan last weekend. After living in LA for so long now I guess I had forgetten what fall really looks like. The colors, the smell in the air, even the angle of the sun. It was so nice, really brought back great memories of growing up there.

I recently went to Paris, my first time, it was so amazing for so many different reasons. The food, the coffee, the people watching, the Museums, the architecture, visiting the local fromagerie and so much more. Such a great place to celebrate being an Artist. One of my favorite places was "The History of Inventions Museum" I put together this small collection of objects, gadgets, textures and colors that I saw while there and around.

With that said here are a couple of crowds I recently did for Tuff Puppy. Crowds for me are always lots of fun, It's a challenge to make everything work, kind of like a giant jig-saw puzzle.

Well now that T.U.F.F. Puppy aired I can finally show a few things that I have been working on. This is one of Snaptrap's evil Doom agents, he's an English bloke named Ollie. On the advice of a co-worker I modeled him after the tall thin English character Horace from 101 Dalmatians. I did several very rough passes at him and Butch just picked one, with almost no changes it went off to clean up...that doesn't happen often I must admit.

This is an older design I did on paper a few years back, the Surgeon General. Looking at this makes me realize how much I miss drawing on paper with pencil. I think I'll dig around and see if I can find some more of these older designs that were done on paper and post just those for a while.

Fairly Odd Parents title cards

One of my many responsibilities on the show is to come up with title card concepts. Here are a few that I've done in the last year or so. They usually begin with a rough concept sketch and then if selected are then taken to a finished rough that is then cleaned up and colored. Staging and working out the typography are the most challenging and fun parts of designing the title cards. And as always great color from my friends Kaz Aizawa, Alex Deligiannis, Dan Chesser, Kelly Chan and Kristin Donner. They always take my ideas and make them come to life..! Also thx to Eirik Paye for his great rough clean up on a few of these.

A few designs I did last season from an FOP episode called "One Man Banned'. I was working from Arron Hammersly's board On this one. In this episode Timmy becomes a triangle playing Rock Star traveling the globe getting mobbed by fans everywhere he goes. He shoots video's, releases hit albums and breaks all attendance records but eventually like most big stars it goes to his head and he self destructs. I've also included the original title card that I did which was not used, I ended up doing a different one instead. Great color as always from Kaz Aizawa on the title card and and Alex Deligiannis on the models and also great work from our Clean Up department.

A few rough designs I recently did, they weren't used because we ended up taking a totally different direction but they were still fun to do. This character supposedly had a very thick Russian accent so I tried to push him as much as I could. These designs were just rough concepts, the next step would have been to tighten the chosen design down.

This design was a very collaborative effort. Me, Matt Whitlock and Butch Hartman all kind of had a hand in it. I think the end result was pretty cool with great voice acting by Brendan Fraser.

Kiss Wishology designs!

What a blast it was to not only design the Kiss characters for the Wishology but also getting to meet both Gene and Paul when they came in for their voice records. I was also lucky enough to get them to sign both of the original roughs I had done on paper, thanks guys!! Mummies Alive Prop Designs

About 13 years ago I had my very first job in the animation Industry. I had just moved to LA from Detroit and had no idea what I was doing but was lucky enough to land a job as Prop Designer on a show called Mummies Alive. It was a fun project, eveything had to have an Egyptian look about it. I must admit, designing an answering machine that looked like it was from ancient Egypt was challenging! In case you don't know Mummies Alive was about a group of crime fighting Mummies who slept in their circoficus's by day and protected their city and fought crime by night. Here's a small collection of props I did for the show.

Phone doodles are interesting to me....there's really no thought that goes into them, it's almost total stream of conscious/auto pilot yet things sometimes turn out half way decent..?

Another very early design, Mr. Birkenbake the Science teacher. The super mellow 60's reject, I think we all had at least one teacher like him in junior high. I had just come off of time Squad so this one is still pretty Time Squady but I think it still works for the show.

Probably one of the first crowds I ever designed for Fairly Odd Parents, It took me forever. I remember taking my time to make sure they all had interesing clothes and so forth. When I finally saw it cleaned up my Boss changed everyones clothes and put them all in matching joggin suits to fit the scene...! Which I didn't even know about??

Shallow Grave...

A new take on an old character. Shallow Grave is a character that I designed for FOP several years ago, he's the Truant Officer. He's one tough customer, blood and guts. Army Drill Sergeant, Lee Marvin and Jack Web all rolled up into one. I never really liked the version I did before so here's a real quick revision of what he might look like If I had another chance. Although this one may be a little to far out...but it's getting there.

Here's one I did for our second movie "Channel Chasers" Vivky the baby sitter who is already known for being pretty evil transforms into a robot. This was a fun design and I think the clean up and color departments really did and excellent job!

The water is green from all the minerals. This entire area really smelled of sulfar. It just felt so prehistoric, the plant life, the trees, the hot springs. To see a Dinosaur off in the distance would'nt have surprised me one a bit.

Everywhere you go there are cafe's in NZ with amazing sandwhiches,big gooey pastries and great Latte's and Cappuccino's.
Even McDonalds has something called McCafe in each store selling Cappuccino's and really delicious looking pastries!
